PETALING JAYA: The Home Ministry has urged police to investigate a traffic dispute which went viral on social media when the driver of a Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV), who claimed he was a Home Ministry staff was caught on video hurling obscenities at another driver on the road.
In a statement today, the Ministry said that it had given police the video clip for their immediate action.
"We also urge the affected party in the video to come forward and lodge a police report on the video so that investigations on the individual involved can be carried out," the statement read.
The ministry also clarified that the man in question was suspended from the ministry last year for abuse of power.
"Our checks into the man revealed that he was an honorary member of the Rela Volunteer corps appointed in February 2015.
"Investigations revealed that the man was suspended in 2017 for abuse of power," the statement read.
In the video that went viral on social media, the man in question was seen using obscene language to another driver while driving recklessly.
The car driver claimed that he would lodge a report at the nearest police station for his own safety since the MPV driver had threatened him with a steering lock.
The MPV driver claimed that he is from the Home Ministry and blamed the car driver for driving recklessly.
However, in another video also taken by the occupant of the car, the same MPV driver could be seen using profanities and demanding for the car driver to move aside.
Another SUV which was in a convoy with the MPV was said to have slowed at several occasions to block the car from getting away and to intimidate the driver of the car recording the video.
It is unknown if a police report has been lodged on the incident yet.
