Colombian authorities have seized 14 shirts imitating those of the country's World Cup football team which had been impregnated with five kilogrammes of cocaine, the newspaper Semana reported Thursday.
The discovery was made during a routine check at Bogota airport, from where the package was being to sent to the Netherlands. The drug traffickers apparently wanted to make use of the World Cup fever in the country to circumvent anti-drug checks, Semana said.
Police expressed "sadness that the shirt which brings so much joy to a country that lives and feels the World Cup, was contaminated with cocaine hydrochloride." The South American country is the world's biggest producer of cocaine, which is made chemically from the coca plant.
