Financial aid needed to repair damaged school roof

KUALA LUMPUR: Teachers and parents are relieved that financial aid will be given to a primary school along Jalan Ladang Perut Putih which had been hit by heavy rainstorm last month.
The cost of repairs is estimated at RM50,000 and Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng has pledged RM20,000 to help fund the cost of repairs.
The rainstorm caused part of the school's roof to collapse, which could pose a danger to students studying at Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Kepong, said its headmaster Rosman Matnoor.
"The school's top floor has been closed due to the potential danger that it may pose to our students where some are special needs children. We will use the second and first floor for their lessons until it is fixed.
"We have alerted the education authorities on the situation. The repairs will cost RM50,000 and we do not have enough funds," he said in a press conference held here today after conducting a joint inspection with Lim.
Lim said contractors will be sent to assess the situation before the students attend classes next week.
Also present was Parent-Teachers' Association head Tan Chong Meng who expressed concern for the students' safety.
"With the UPSR examination coming up in September, I am worried about my son who is studying here," he said.
"We will organise a gotong-royong this Sunday to clean up the premises and plan to raise funds soon," he added.
Tan can be reached at 016-2108290 for further information on the school.
