Ku Li, KJ, Zahid among five presidential candidates

KUALA LUMPUR: The Umno Headquarters today released a list of candidates who offered themselves to contest various posts in the party's election this Saturday and June 30, with five candidates vying for the party's presidential post.
They were Gua Musang Member of Parliament Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, vice-president who performs the duties of president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Bandar Tun Razak Umno Division member Mohamed Iqbal Maricair and Umno Iskandar Puteri Division member Mohd Yusof Musa @ Jamaluddin .
The deputy president's post would see competition between Rembau Umno Division chief Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Umno Information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
Seven candidates would compete for three vice-presidential posts, namely Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Datuk Seri Mohamad Khaled Nordin, Sheikh Razali Sheikh Hamad, Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani and Datuk Seri Ahmad Said.
Ismail Sabri, Mohamed Khaled, Mahdzir, Tajuddin and Johari were members of the Umno Supreme Council.
Earlier, the Umno Secretariat received seven nomination forms for the presidency, three nomination forms for the deputy president's post and nine forms for vice-presidents' post.
In the list of candidates uploaded on the Umno website today, the party also listed 106 candidates who would compete for 25 posts as a member of the Supreme Council, including some incumbents and big names in the party.
Among them were Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, Tan Sri Noh Omar, Datuk Seri Idris Haron, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, Datuk Seri Razali Ibrahim, Datuk Seri Mohd Johari Baharum, Datuk Seri Ismail Mohamed Said and Datuk Seri Azlan Man.
Also contesting were Datuk Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi, Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir, Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek and Datuk Bung Moktar Radin.
A total of two candidates would contest for the permanent chairman post while another 14 candidates would take on the deputy permanent chairman's post.
Meanwhile, three candidates would compete for the post of Wanita chief, namely, Tan Sri Siti Zaharah Sulaiman, Datuk Noraini Ahmad and Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun.
Four candidates would contest the vice chief post, 81 candidates would compete for committee posts, besides two for permanent chairman post and four for the wing's permanent deputy chairmanship.
For the Youth Movement, nine individuals would be contesting for the post, including the vice youth chief Khairul Azwan Harun, Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Asyraf Wadji Dusuki, Pahang Youth chief Mohd Shahar Abdullah and Sungai Besar Division chief who sparked a controversy Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos.
Nine candidates will be competing for the post of vice youth chief, 184 candidates contesting for the members of the movement's committee, two candidates for permanent chairman's post and three for permanent deputy chairman's post.
The Puteri movement chief's post will witness a contest between Puteri's vice chief Datuk Zahida Zarik Khan and Puteri exco Nor Hazreena Mohamad Hashim.
Five other candidates will vie for the vice chief's post, 71 candidates would contest for the committee members' posts and two candidates for permanent chairman's post.
The post of deputy chairman was won by Salbiah Saari after being the sole candidate for the post.
Meanwhile, Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the party's headquarters had screened the candidates who offered to contest in this election.
"The list of central level candidates have been reviewed by the Department of Insolvency and have met the conditions set for the contests, can be downloaded through http://www.Umno-online.my/callovernment2018.
"The divisional level list can be referred directly with the State Umno Liaison Body or their respective divisions. Good luck in the contests," he said in a statement today. — Bernama
