SIMPANG RENGGAM: Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik said Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar is the right person to lead the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Empowerment Committee.
"Some quarters have said that Nurul lacks the ability in spearheading the TVET initiative, however, we make decisions in consensus and we believe in collective leadership,"he said at his Hari-Raya open-house at the district council building here today.
He was responding to the National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) who had questioned her ability to lead the committee.
On Chinese education issues, Maszlee said a special committee will be formed after some preliminary discussions with politicians, academicians and some Chinese education groups.
"We have already met some of them, and we are going to meet some others in the near future.
"We are going to meet Dong Zong (United Chinese School Committees Association) and other education groups too," he added.
Dong Zong president Datuk Vincent Lau had said the association wants to meet the Education Minister over the problems faced by Chinese primary schools, and on the United Examination Certificate (UEC) issue among others.
On another matter, Maszlee who is also Simpang Rengam MP said he hopes to make the town a twin city with some cities in Australia and the United States.
He said the twin city initiative would promote education and business opportunities, especially for small and medium industries.
