Chance for Gerakan members to object move to quit BN (Updated)

GEORGE TOWN: Gerakan members, who are not in favour of the decision to quit Barisan Nasional (BN), could table a resolution against the move in the party's delegate conference in November.
The party's youth wing deputy chief said most of the members agreed with pulling out of the coalition after a lengthy discussion between Gerakan's central committee and state chairmen.
"They can bring up the matter at the conference on Nov 17," Andy Yong told theSun today.
On whether Gerakan could attract more support after leaving BN, he said: "I believe we could make a comeback if we play an effective role as a constructive opposition to provide check and balance."
Meanwhile, Gerakan's Datuk Teo Eng Tee, said he is now an independent senator and will continue his services.
Teo, the Johor Gerakan chairman, said he was appointed as senator in January this year and has more than two years of service remaining.
Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng, from the DAP, had called on Gerakan to quit its BN-appointed positions following the party's decision to exit the former ruling coalition.
"The last noble thing for Gerakan to do after leaving BN is to have their two senators, their representative in the Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL) advisory board and their many other political appointees in various federal and state agencies resign from their BN-appointed positions," Lim said in a statement today.
"They were BN appointees, and now that they are leaving BN, they should also do the honourable thing by resigning from the positions, which were given to them by the BN, (and) completely disassociating themselves from their previous partnership."
