Court dismisses police request for remand order against Siti Kasim

    KAJANG: The magistrate's court here has rejected an application by the police for a remand order against activist lawyer Siti Kassim.
    The four-day order was rejected by Registrar Sharifah Fadzillah Zolfikli and Siti is expected to be released soon.
    Siti Kasim was arrested for apparently "obstructing a civil servant from carrying out his or her duties" in a case involving a 24-year-old woman who fled home allegedly to escape her abusive mother.
    She who was arrested at 12.40am today and was held at the Kajang district police headquarters.
    Selangor police CID chief SAC Fadzil Ahmat said police had raided an apartment unit in Segambut at 9pm last night to rescue the woman after her mother lodged a police report on Friday alleging her daughter who was undergoing psychiatric evaluation by doctors at the Kajang Hospital was abducted by Siti.
    He said a report was also lodged against Siti by a police personnel who was escorting the woman at the Kajang Hospital.
    Fadzil said the police personnel's report was on a commotion that occured at the Kajang Hospital where Siti Kasim allegedly barged into an examination ward despite being stopped by a security guard.
