Najib wins uncontested as Pekan Umno division chief

KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister and ex-Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak (pix) is among 74 party division chiefs who won uncontested at the Umno divisional polls today.
Aside from Najib who is also Pekan MP, Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who is also shouldering the responsibilities of party president and Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein also won uncontested as Bagan Datuk and Sembrong division chiefs respectively.
Other heavyweights who won without any fight in their divisions are Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor (Putrajaya), Datuk Seri Azalina Othman (Pengerang), Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom (Jerai), Datuk Seri Anifah Aman (Kimanis) and Tan Sri Noh Omar (Tanjong Karang).
Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed (Jeli), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri (Bera), Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid (Padang Terap), Tan Sri Annuar Musa (Ketereh), Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub (Machang) and Datuk Bung Moktar (Kinabatangan) also retained their divisional posts.
The results were announced by Umno executive secretary Datuk Ab Rauf Yusoh who also won uncontested in Masjid Tanah.
All 191 divisions held their election today, which started at 9am.
In regard to the party's wings, Ab Rauf said as at 9pm, 35% of the votes from all the divisions had been received by the party's headquarters and he expected the percentage to reach at least 60% by midnight. — Bernama
