3 heroin labs smashed, one drug store raided

JOHOR BARU: Police have crippled a drug syndicate here that specialised in producing heroin for local sale and export to a neighboring country.
Bukit Aman Police Narcotics Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Salleh said police discovered three labs and a drug store here that had 31.7kg of heroin and other drugs, with a total street value of RM640,000 last Saturday.
Eight male suspects were arrested, including a Bangladeshi who was a chemist, he said at a press conference at the Johor Police Contingent headquarters, here today. Three of them tested positive for drugs.
"This is the biggest heroin haul in Johor for this year," Mohd Salleh said.
A Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (Sting) team from Bukit Aman and Johor Narcotics police made seven raids in Bukit Indah, Taman Seri Yakub, Mutiara Rini in Skudai, Kempas in Johor Baru and Taman Bukit Perdana in Batu Pahat.
Police found three labs with simple equipment and one drug material store in Bukit Indah and Kempas in Johor Baru.
Apart from heroin, police also found small amounts of ketamine, syabu and caffeine. Police also seized eight cars worth a total of RM801,000.
He said all suspects would be remanded until June 30 to allow investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
