ALOR STAR: The Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) have detained two Thai nationals who were believed to have attempted to smuggle 114 kg of ketum leaves worth more than RM10,200 into the neighbouring country early today.
Sixth Infantry Brigade Commander Brig Gen Abd Aziz Ismail said the men, both in their 20s, were picked up near the Sahara Post, in Padang Terap by a team of the 4th Border Regiment about 6.45am.
"The personnel spotted two men in two motorcycles before directing them to stop and they immediately threw packages they were carrying into the bushes before being arrested.
"Upon checking the packages, they were found to contain ketum leaves believed to be smuggled into the neighbouring country," he said in a statement. — Bernama
