SUBANG JAYA: The Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) has identified a 20% increase in dengue cases this week, said council president Noraini Roslan.
She said the figure jumped from 99 last week to 121 cases.
"There are 13 hotspots that have been identified which include Jalan Taylor's, USJ 2/5, PJS 11/7, PJS 9/1, Batu 13 (Kg Kenangan), USJ 21, Jalan Teratai, Taman Puncak Kinrara 2,  Vista Pinggiran Putra, Flat Seri Perdana, Serdang Perdana (One South) and South Perdana 5," she said in a press conference after chairing a full board meeting here today.
She said although MPSJ has conducted cleanups, there were some areas where the community should take action themselves.
"I urge the Joint Management Body to start their own cleanup system. Otherwise, they will be fined with a RM500 compound," she added.
On a recent fire incident which razed a two-acre illegal landfill near Taman Pinggiran Putra last Saturday, she said that the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (Mardi) will come up with a plan to ensure that it does not reoccur.
A Selangor Fire and Rescue Department spokesman reportedly said the blaze was spotted by a Disaster Management Unit team that was conducting a land and aerial survey over the area.
He said an investigation at the location found garbage piled up as high as 30 feet.
Some 25 firefighters from the Serdang and Cyberjaya fire stations as well as Selangor state disaster management unit were involved in the operation.
