HRDF funds used to take on Mahathir

PETALING JAYA: A staggering RM4 million was used to stage a mega-concert held at Dataran Lang in Langkawi on the eve of the 14th General Election on May 8.
That money came partly from the Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF), veteran journalist R. Nadeswaran said in his column today. HRDF contribution was part of a huge war chest for BN’s GE14 campaign.
Fearing Pakatan Harapan chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad would reach the masses on May 8 and get his message through, then caretaker prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak's speech was aired live on TV3, TV2, Astro Awani, HyppTV and Bernama TV.
Mahathir's speech at Dewan Ho Peng in Langkawi was live-streamed on social media.
To counter Mahathir's crowd-pulling ceramah, Barisan Nasional (BN) staged the RM4 million concert. The money didn't come from BN, but HRDF.
Nadeswaran said this and other abuses of employers' funds are emerging on the eve of its annual general meeting which will be held tomorrow, June 28. This will be preceded by a meeting of the HRDF board of directors.
