Md Alwi Che Ahmad appointed as opposition leader: Mustapa

KOTA BARU: Kok Lanas State Assemblyman Datuk Md Alwi Che Ahmad has been appointed as the opposition leader for the Kelantan State Legislative Assembly.
Kelantan Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, who is also Air Lanas assemblyman Seri Mustapa Mohamed said Md Alwi, who is Kelantan Umno information chief, was selected based on his extensive experience and is a senior Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblyman in the state assembly.
"Based on his vast experience, character, religious education, professional education and others, we believe that he is qualified to become an opposition leader who can provide constructive ideas to reprimand the state government," he told reporters after the swearing-in ceremony of the Kelantan assemblyman at Kota Darul Naim Complex here today.
All 45 state assemblymen, comprising 37 from PAS and eight from BN took their oath of office at the ceremony.
However, Pakatan Harapan coalition has no representation in the Kelantan state assembly.
Commenting on BN's participation in debates during the current Kelantan state assembly sittings, he said they would play a more effective role by conducting research on issues and presenting facts.
Mustapa also welcomed and thanked the state government which had expressed its willingness to channel allocation to the opposition assemblymen for this term. — Bernama
