MISC warns of scam using its name

PETALING JAYA: MISC Bhd has warned the public of a scam using its name and corporate logo. The international shipping corporation said a letter purportedly from MISC Shipyard & Engineering Sdn Bhd is in circulation.
The scam letter requests organisations to submit their tenders for a contractual supply for a project "Centralised, Reorganise, Restructure and Improvement of Procurements, Purchasing Systems of All Products, Services and Assets for MISC Shipyard & Engineering Services Sdn Bhd".
"MISC wishes to stress that MISC Shipyard & Engineering Sdn Bhd is not a company within or related to the MISC Group and that the blatant and unauthorised use of the name of MISC and the MISC corporate logo by this unknown entity is a serious violation of MISC's proprietary rights," it said in a statement today.
"MISC and the MISC Group wish to further state that they have no relationship or dealings with the said MISC Shipyard & Engineering Sdn Bhd."
It also said the alleged appointed project management consultant for the said tender, Deloitte Engineering Services is not related to MISC or the MISC Group. MISC and the MISC Group have no relationship or dealings with the said Deloitte Engineering Services, it added.
"More importantly, the public and potential tenderers are hereby advised and notified that neither MISC nor any companies within the MISC Group has authorised or issued any notice for contractual supply for any such project as stated above," it said.
"MISC and the MISC Group are of the view that the issuance of such unauthorised letters may be a means of committing fraud or deception on members of the public or potential tenderers and the public and potential tenderers are advised to be vigilant and cautious when receiving any letters or notices purporting to be issued by MISC or the MISC Group. In this respect, MISC has lodged a police report.
"MISC takes the opportunity to remind the public, its vendors and suppliers to contact MISC directly for verification should they receive such procurement and/or contractual supply requests from unfamiliar sources."
