JOHOR BARU: The Johor MCA liaison committee today passed a motion to support MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong as a candidate for the post of party president.
In a press conference following the meeting, Wee told the media that he needs to focus on internal reform in the run-up to the polls in November.
He urged MCA members to change their role accordingly after Barisan Nasional's (BN) defeat at the 14th general election.
"MCA wants to play the role of a constructive and efficient opposition," he said.
He also declined to speak on MCA's role in the coalition, adding that his primary concern was reform within MCA itself.
On the issue of Chinese schools, Wee said he was shocked to learn that the new government would review the construction of 10 new SRJKC's which was approved by the BN administration.
Last October, the then government had approved and announced the construction of 10 new SJKCs and the relocation of six SJKCs with low enrollment to areas with high demand for such schools.
Wee also said that Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik had not replied to his letter Dated June 18, where he offered to brief the minister on the issue of SRJKC schools.
