PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will call in a top Umno leader for questioning over alleged misappropriation of funds from a foundation.
A local Malay-daily reported today that the said leader was a senior Cabinet minister in the previous administration under former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.

In its report, Sinar Harian said this was confirmed by MACC investigative director Datuk Simi Abdul Ghani, who had refused to disclose the name of the top leader or further details of the case.
"There is an Umno leader who is being probed," he was quoted as saying by the Malay daily.
He was responding to a previous report by the daily on investigations on misappropriation of funds from the foundation.
The leader under probe had allegedly used over RM800,000 from the foundation to pay up credit card bills of his wife and himself.
The misappropriation allegedly started in 2014 and MACC was said to have traced several documents related to the alleged transactions.
It was also reported that MACC is also probing a few other ex-ministers for similar allegations and abuse of power.
The daily reported that based on information from credible sources, the leader is one of the candidates for one of the top posts at the Umno polls today.
The source had also said that MACC's probe was initiated early this year, after being tipped off on the misappropriation of funds from a foundation, where he was the president.

The five contenders for the post of Umno president are Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, acting president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, former Pemuda chief Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar, Bandar Tun Razak division member Mohamed Iqbal Maricair and Iskandar Puteri division member Mohd Yusof Musa.
The deputy president's post is being contested by former Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Umno information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
Whereas seven candidates who are contesting for the three Umno vice-president posts are Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Datuk Seri Mohamad Khaled Nordin, Sheikh Razali Sheikh Hamad, Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani dan Datuk Seri Ahmad Said.
