Man nabbed over septuagenarian's death in Taiping

TAIPING: The police today detained a man believed to have pulled the bicycle of a septuagenarian causing her to fall to death in a snatch theft incident near here last Tuesday.
Taiping District Police chief ACP Mohamad Taib said the 34-year-old suspect was picked up at the Tupai Health Clinic here at 10am.
He said upon questioning, the suspect admitted to his involvement in the case, and that the stolen bicycle was at the latter's home.
"The suspect was interested in the bicycle and was not aware that his action could have led to the victim's death," he said in a statement here today.
In the 5pm incident, the 72-year-old victim was killed when she lost control of her bicycle and fell by the roadside at Jalan Walker, Pokok Assam near here.
Mohamad said the victim, who was cycling home, was pronounced dead at the Taiping Hospital at 2am the next day.
The case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, he said. — Bernama
