Ops Selamat in N.Sembilan records 15 fatalities

SEREMBAN: 'Ops Selamat' launched in Negri Sembilan from June 8 to 22 in conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebration, has recorded 1,108 road accidents with 15 fatalities.
Negri Sembilan Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Ibrahim Abdul Kadir said the number of deaths did not show any differences when compared with Ops Selamat Aidil Fitri 2017.
"Motorcyclists were the main contributors to fatalities involving eight cases, followed by car drivers (eight cases) and one involving a pedestrian.
"The rate of accidents in the state had dropped compared 1,108 cases during the same festive season last year. However, there was an increase in fatal accidents in the operation mounted, with 14 cases compared to 13 last year," he said in a statement here yesterday.
He noted that a total of 6,467 summonses were also issued for various offences compared to 4,281 for the corresponding period last year (51.1% increase).
Among the traffic offences committed were exceeding the speed limit, driving in emergency lanes, cutting queues, beating the traffic lights, overtaking at the double line and using mobile phones while driving. — Bernama
