IPOH: A government-linked company (GLC) has been paying salaries of its staff through overdraft facilities in the past due to financial constraints, said Perak Mentri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu.
"The company is not in a position to pay the wages of some 100 workers this month. Paying salaries through bank overdraft facilities will only add to the financial burden of the company," he said to reporters after attending a Hari Raya Open House hosted by Royal Ipoh Club for 50 children from Thafiz Al-Barakah here today.
"We have to look at the high overhead expenses ... if we terminate the employees' services they will lose their source of income.
"The company has to find a solution to pay the wages ... we have detected wastage in some agreements.
"The agreements will be reviewed so that the company will make profits and able to pay the salaries.
"The state has also restructured the top management and removed top officials," he added.
Ahmad Faizal, who is Perak Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) chairman, said the party's national Hari Raya Open House would be held at the Bukit Merah Laketown Resort on July 6 from 3pm to 6pm.
"We are expecting some 25,000 people and the visitors will enjoy the attractions at the theme park for free," he added.
Among those expected are Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and other senior PPBM leaders.
