SHAH ALAM: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun has confirmed that the federal police will not form new police units to replace the elite task forces that will be disbanded as part of a revamp of the force.
"We won't be forming any new police unit to replace them. We will reorganise the existing team to incorporate into specific departments like CCID, CID and NCID," he told reporters at a Hari Raya function in Selangor police headquarters, here today.
Mohamad Fuzi added that he had instructed his officers to hold a workshop to complete the restructuring process.
"Restructuring the elite teams is not an easy task. We have to perform the reorganisation process carefully," he added.
It was reported that the Special Task Force for Anti-Vice, Gaming and Gangsterism (STAGG), Special Task Force on Organised Crime (Stafoc) and Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING), which are believed to be riddled with corruption, will be closed down as they have been "protecting" the criminals they were supposed to apprehend.
