Pakatan welcomes Chinese investment if mutually beneficial: Teresa Kok

KUALA LUMPUR: The Pakatan Harapan government welcomes foreign investment even from China but it must bring benefits to both sides, said Primary Industries Minister Teresa Kok (pix).
She said Chinese firms are welcomed to invest in Malaysia but Malaysians too must enjoy the benefits of such investments.
"Both sides need to work out the type of investments that will be mutually beneficial to each other," she told the media after the launching of the Eight Malaysia-China entrepreneur conference today.
Teresa said Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had affirmed the government's commitment to continued friendly ties with China as well as increasing trade between both nations.
She also urged local entrepreneurs to take advantage of the trade war between China and America to promote local goods that could find a market there.
Kok cited the example of tariffs imposed on soyabean by China, saying Malaysia now has the unique opportunity to promote palm oil and palm oil related products to China.
She said Malaysians must not miss this opportunity to promote locally made products to the Chinese market.
On the appointment of a Federal Territories minister, she said Khalid Samad was a "suitable" choice to head the ministry.
"The appointment of Khalid was a suitable one and I would not like to question the wisdom of the Prime Minister in maintaining the ministry," she said, despite previously calling for the ministry to be done away with, and for local council elections to be held instead.
