MALACCA: Parties who made withdrawals from two accounts under the State Assembly Development and Coordination Committee (Japerun) have been urged to return the money.
Durian Tunggal state assemblyman Mohd Sofi Abdul Wahab (pix), who is also state executive councillor in charge of the Public Works, Transport and Public Utilities, said they must return the money as both accounts belonged to the people of the state.
He said both accounts were under the Durian Tunggal Japerun Special Welfare Fund where there was RM10,104.15 in the first account and another RM318.16 in the second account.
However, all that was left was RM10.60 in each account, he told reporters at a press conference at Seri Negri, Ayer Keroh, near here yesterday.
Based on the current account statement received on May 31, the withdrawals were made after there was a change in the government, he said, adding that a police report was lodged over the matter at the Durian Tungggal police station on June 28.
He said apart from the missing funds, computers and telephones were also found to have been removed from the Japerun office.
Meanwhile, Alor Gajah district police chief, Supt A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz confirmed that report was lodged against the missing funds and the case has been referred to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for further investigation. — Bernama
