Snatch theft: Four nabbed over death of senior citizen

    JOHOR BARU: Police detained four men, aged between 22 and 23 years, to assist investigation into the snatch theft that caused the death of a senior citizen at Jalan Sri Pelangi, Taman Pelangi here on Sunday.
    Johor Baru Selatan district police chief ACP Shahurinain Jais said they received a report about the incident at 5.10am, involving a 66-year-old man, identified as Wang Sue Jing, who had fallen after the sling bag he was carrying was grabbed from behind.
    "The suspect tried to pull the victim's bag but failed causing the victim to fall and injure his head. The victim was sent to Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) here for treatment before being pronounced dead at 2.10pm.
    "Acting on information, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division Johor Baru Selatan District Police headquarters conducted a raid at 8.30pm at two locations, Jalan Stulang Laut, Taman Stulang and Petron Oil Station, Jalan Tebrau, and managed to arrest the four suspects," he said in a statement here yesterday.
    Monitoring of the closed-circuit television (CCTV) in the nearby area found two of the suspects speeding on a Yamaha Lagenda motorcycle leaving the scene, he said, adding that all the suspects have been remanded until July 6 and further investigations were also being carried out to find out if the four were involved in other snatch thefts around the city.
    "Police also confiscated four mobile phones, a Honda Wave motorcycle with a fake registration number and reported missing, a Yamaha RXZ, six bank cards, and some foreign currencies," he said.
