SEREMBAN: "If it is true that money politics exists in Umno's elections, it should be proven with evidence, Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said.
Mohamad, who is also the Negri Sembilan Umno Liaison Committee chairman, said this would enable the authorities to take appropriate action.
"That I do not know of (the existence of money politics) ... if he (the claimant) has evidence, I suggest he submits the evidence for action to be taken.
"Do not just talk, lodge a report if there is evidence and make sure action must be taken because we do not want any unhealthy element like this to continue to proliferate," he said.
He was speaking to reporters after the swearing-in of the Speaker, Deputy Speaker and State Assembly members at the First Session of the 14th State Assembly here, today.
Earlier, Gua Musang Umno Division chief Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah claimed that he had heard that a lot of money had been used in the party elections.
At the party elections yesterday, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was elected President with 99 votes while Khairy Jamaluddin won 61 votes and Tengku Razaleigh won 30 votes.
In another development, Mohamad has yet to decide on the Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblyman who would be the opposition leader in the state assembly this time because there had been no discussion on the selection for the post.
Mohamad, who is also state BN chairman, said he would discuss with other partners and decide who would be the opposition leader.
He said the role of the opposition was not merely to oppose, but also to monitor the policies and progress made by the state government to enable the people to benefit from each policy implemented. — Bernama
