KUALA LUMPUR: Part of a concrete slab from the roof the National Library Annexe Building located adjacent to the Malaysian National News Agency's (Bernama) headquarters Wisma Bernama here came crashing down at about 11am today.
It hit a tier of railing type barriers on the lower floors of the 15-storey building and splattered onto Lorong Bernama, the avenue between the building, and even into the compound Wisma Bernama.
A witness, Mohd Izuwan Mohd Zaki from Bernama News Channel (BNC), said he was walking to Wisma Bernama and was taken aback on hearing a loud crashing sound behind him.
"I was just seconds ahead and on turning back saw concrete fragments had fallen over the National Library's perimeter wall onto Lorong Bernama," he told Bernama at the scene.
Meanwhile, Bernama chairman Datuk Seri Azman Ujang, who came down to check on the situation, said the National Library's management must take immediate steps to prevent a recurrence as people could get hurt.
He said this was the second such incident involving the annexe with the first earlier this year.
Construction of the annexe named Menara PNM was completed on May 31, 2010 and was occupied in September 2010. — Bernama
