KUALA LUMPUR: Pengurusan Aset Air Bhd (PAAB) can supply 325 million litres per day (MLD) of water to the state-owned Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor), once works for the first section of Phase 1, of the Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant (Langat 2) project, is completed by year-end.
CEO Mahadzir Mustafa said the 325 MLD was based on the operational planning, subject to resolving all the testing and commissioning issues which involved both PAAB and Air Selangor.
“Construction of the first section is expected to be completed the earliest by this month. PAAB expects to commence the plant testing and commissioning, thereafter, with about three and a half months to complete it.
“So, operationally, we can supply part of Langat 2 water by year-end,” he told Bernama on the sidelines of the PAAB Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house on Tuesday.
According to the Langat 2 Project official website, the venture will be undertaken in two phases, namely Phase 1 and Phase 2, with each capable of treating and distributing 1,130 MLD of water to the targeted demand centres.
Construction of Phase 1 began in 2014 and is scheduled for completion in 2022.
As of June 30, about 72% of overall construction had been completed.
Mahadzir said section 1 is expected to generate revenue for the company once it starts to supply the water by year-end.
Meanwhile, he expressed confidence that the water restructuring exercise in Selangor could be settled smoothly with the new government in place.
The water migration process has long been delayed as the previous federal government led by Barisan Nasional, and the Pakatan Harapan-led state government, needed more time to mutually agree on the value of the offer for acquisition of Syarikat Pengeluar Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Splash).
Earlier, it was reported that the Selangor government had been given a July 4 deadline this year to complete the acquisition of Splash in relation to the state water migration process.
