Indonesia to deport Jamal Yunos at noon

PETALING JAYA: Indonesian authorities will send Red Shirt leader Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos who was arrested there on Monday back to Malaysia at 12pm, said his lawyer.
Datuk Mohd Imran Tamrin said in a statement that his client is scheduled to board Malaysia Airlines Flight MH710 and depart from Jakarta then.
Jamal was arrested by the Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police pursuant to a request from Malaysia.
The Sungai Besar Umno division leader escaped from police custody in May prior to being granted bail and initially claimed this was an honest mistake.
However, he later fled the country after claiming a conspiracy against him.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun yesterday said that a team from the Selangor Criminal Investigation Department set off for Indonesia yesterday to bring Jamal back.
Jamal, 48, was under investigation for a total of nine offences, of which the charges for the remaining six cases are expected to be mounted on the fugitive in stages in the near future.
While in hiding for the last month, the escapee nominated himself as a candidate for the post of Umno Youth chief but failed in being elected after receiving dismal support from party members.
