Suhakam inquiry: Retired cop admits dramatising speech

KUALA LUMPUR: A retired special branch officer told a Suhakam inquiry today that he had dramatised several aspects of his speech.
Datuk Awaludin Jadid, who was the former principal assistant director of the Special Branch's Social Extremism Division (E2) also contradicted himself several times when he was questioned.
He was being questioned by lawyer Nizam Bashir during the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia inquiry into the disappearance of activist Amri Che Mat (pix).
Referring to a speech he made about extremism in 2016, he said it was off hand and he may have got carried away.
In his speech, he had allegedly warned about the dangers posed by Syiah followers and that they posed a security threat to the nation.

Asked on the political overtones in his speech, Awaluddin said whatever he said was merely advice.
Amri's wife Norhayati Mohd Ariffin had claimed that Awaludin was in charge of a police team that allegedly abducted Amri in 2016.
Awaludin, who retired from the police force on July 1, had since denied this.
Amri went missing on Nov 24, 2016, believed to be abducted just 550m from his home at Padang Behor in Kangar, Perlis.
Perlis Hope, a charity organisation co-founded by Amri, has been accused of having links to Shia, a sect in Islam which has been deemed "haram" (forbidden) by the National Fatwa Council.
In a police report on May 15 at the Shah Alam police station, Norhayati had claimed that Awaludin headed a team that abducted both her husband and Pastor Raymond Koh.
