KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Tun Daim Zainuddin (pix), a member of the Council of Eminent Persons, is free to go to China if he wants to.
When asked to comment on Daim's upcoming trip to China during a press conference today, Dr Mahathir said Daim may go wherever he wants and may offer his advice to the administration.
"He wants to talk to China about the contracts, that is my guess. He (Daim) is free to go wherever he wants. He can give his advice, but I can reject it if I want to," said Dr Mahathir.
Yesterday, the Finance Ministry had issued a work suspension notice on three multi-billion ringgit projects - the Multi-Product Pipeline and the Trans-Sabah Gas Pipeline projects under Suria Strategic Energy Resources Sdn Bhd, as well as the East Coast Rail Link project - until further notice.
It was reported that Daim would be going to China ahead of Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng to discuss the suspension of the projects. — Bernama
