MALACCA: The Malacca state government will set up a Smart City Advisory Council to transform Malacca City into a Smart City, said Chief Minister Adly Zahari.
He said the council would be run by the State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN) while the Malacca Chief Minister's Department (JKMM) would play a key role in connecting the state government with the people.
"We not only want Malacca to have the features of a smart city but those features should also be a product which will make it a pioneer among developing countries.
"For instance, when tourists arrive, they need information on accommodation, parking areas and interesting places to visit in the state, so Malacca's smart city will provide this information to them," he said in a press conference held after the Malacca State Exco Meeting here today.
Adly said the appointed committee would draw up policies and ways of transforming Malacca into a smart city.
He said the smart city would apply more green technology which would not have adverse effects on the environment while helping to improve the national economy.
In a separate development, Adly said the state government would form a task force to study the status of the Malay and Islamic World Secretariat (DMDI), Yayasan DMDI and DMDI Finance House.
"We will look at the roles and assets, including DMDI's debts which amount to RM19 million. The DMDI branding will be handed over to Tan Sri Mohd Ali Rustam. However, we will take over the state government's assets," he said.
Separately, Adly said the Malacca City World Heritage 10th anniversary celebrations would begin today until Aug 4.
"There will be various programmes including competitions and demonstrations of traditional games, a 'Cultural Hunt in a Baba Home', traditional food stalls and a special talk on 'Wang Kang' Malacca," he said. — Bernama
