KUALA LUMPUR: Police found a necklace with religious writing on it following the gruesome discovery of hacked-up body parts stuffed into two luggage bags on the riverbank of Sungai Gombak near Putra World Trade Centre yesterday.
City police chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said further investigations found that what was thought to be two dead bodies are in fact parts belonging to the same victim which were hacked up and put into two separate bags.
"The body has now been found to belong to a woman. However, her identity is still being investigated. She is believed to be in her 30's or 40's.
"According to the post-mortem report, the cause of death was because of the victim's neck being slashed. We believe a big and sharp weapon was used by the murderer," he told reporters at the KL police headquarters here today.
Mazlan added clothes were stuffed together with body parts in both luggage bags.
"The body parts were wrapped with two layers of plastic bags and bedsheets," he added.
Police hope to get some leads with her fingerprints and Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) footage near the scene.
Mazlan said initial findings by police showed that the victim had died between 24 hours and 60 hours earlier.
The gory discovery was made by a worker watering plants nearby who spotted a leg sticking out of one of the bags.
Mazlan also added that the police already recorded statements from seven individuals staying in the vicinity to assist in investigations.
In the first bag, police found hands, feet and a head while in the second bag was a torso.
He advised members of the public who are missing any family members to come forward to any nearby police station or to contact the Police KL control centre at 03-21460532.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
