HULU LANGAT: The Ministry of Water, Land and Natural Resources has assured that the Langat 2 water treatment plant (LRA), which is now 72% complete, will be able to supply 325 million litres per day (MLD) of water for use by Selangor residents from November.
Its Minister Dr A. Xavier Jayakumar (pix) said the supply (325 MLD) would increase the state's current water reserve margin from three per cent to seven per cent and would be able to accommodate up to one million households.
"It will add to the existing water production of 4,431 MLD through 34 LRAs to cater to the needs of Selangor residents," he said during a visit to the site of the Langat 2 LRA here today.
Earlier, he attended a closed-door briefing with Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (PAAB), National Water Services Commission (SPAN) and SMHB Engineering Sdn Bhd on the project.
Dr Xavier Jayakumar said the Langat 2 LRA project, costing RM8 billion, was scheduled to be completed in 2022 and was capable of supplying 1,130 MLD, sufficient for Klang Valley residents.
The construction of the project, which started in 2014, comprises 15 packages, involving Hulu Langat, Cheras, Sungai Besi, Bukit Jalil, Petaling, Bandar Kinrara, Bukit Dengkil, Ampang as well as Keramat AU3 in Selangor.
Dr Xavier Jayakumar said the ministry will prepare a working paper to create a system to minimise water pollution from Pahang before entering the water treatment plant.
In a related development, he said the Cabinet had approved a one-month extension period to resolve the Selangor state government's water supply issue and acquisition of the Syarikat Pengeluar Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Splash). — Bernama
