UEC graduates assessed in various aspects: Malacca CM

MALACCA: The intake of Unified Examination Certificate holders into the Malacca civil service should not be made a big issue as it is subject to several important criteria, said Chief Minister Adly Zahari (pix).
He said one important criteria was a pass in Bahasa Melayu.
"Before we (Malacca) announced the intake at the state level, we have considered the needs, views and other matters before including it in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) manifesto at the state level.
"No quota has been set for the intake of these certificate holders. We will also look at the educational background of the applicants for state posts, not just the UEC," he said here today.
Adly was speaking to reporters at an Aidilfitri celebration gathering organised by Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) here, which was attended by Malacca Yang Dipertua Negri Tun Dr Mohd Khalil Yaakob and UTeM vice-chancellor Datuk Dr Shahrin Sahib.
Adly was commenting on an allegation made by independent preacher Prof Dr Ridhuan Tee Abdullah that the decision by the Malacca state government to take in UEC holders was uncivilised and would allow certain parties to set their own curriculum, use a Chinese language as a medium of instruction and conduct their own examinations without referring to the Education Ministry and the Malaysian Examination Board. — Bernama
