Uruguay's Cavani trains in fitness fight for France

Uruguay's Edinson Cavani trained on Thursday as he fights to get fit for his side's World Cup quarter-final against France. The Paris Saint-Germain forward trained separately from the rest of the squad in the first 15 minutes of the session open to the media at the team's base outside Nizhny Novgorod.
Cavani had missed training on Wednesday as he recovers from a calf injury and continues to be a fitness doubt for Friday's match. Uruguayan Football Association president Wilmar Valdez told Uruguay's Ocean FM radio Cavani was "not ruled out" of the match. The forward was making progress and his fitness for the game will be decided on Friday, he said.
Cavani scored both goals in the last-16 2-1 win over Portugal before limping off with some 20 minutes remaining, eventually being replaced in the 74th minute. If the 31-year-old misses the game, Girona forward Cristhian Stuani is thought likely to take his place in the starting line-up for the two-time champions.
