Ahmad Zakiyuddin in stable condition after heart attack

GEORGE TOWN: It is unfortunate for Penang Deputy Chief Minister 1 Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman who was admitted at Penang Hospital yesterday after suffering a heart attack.
Not many know that the first term assemblymen had lost his wife before the announcement of his candidacy as PKR candidate for Pinang Tunggal in GE14.
But the former engineer, however, did not lose his spirit and went on to win the Pinang Tunggal seat defeating incumbent Datuk Roslan Saidin from Umno.
Sources close to theSun said Ahmad Zakiyuddin wife died of cancer few months before he was chosen as the party candidate.
"The loss didn't make him lose his spirit, he strived on and won the seat", he said.
Yesterday, Ahmad Zakiyuddin was admitted to Penang Hospital ICU after complaining chest pain while on his way to an event at Kepala Batas.
He was rushed to KPJ hospital and being transferred to Penang Hospital ICU unit for observation.
Health exco Dr Afif Bahardin when contacted said, Ahmad is in stable condition and on medical leave.
He also said that the 60-year-old politician will be undergoing an angiogram at the hospital today.
Born on Dec 8, 1958, in Kuala Sala, Kedah, Ahmad Zakiyuddin received his early education at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kuala Sala before moving to Sekolah Menengah Kota Sarang Semut and completed his secondary education at Sekolah Menengah Sains Kedah.
In 1976, the father of six children continued his studies at Salford University in the United Kingdom in civil engineering.
Before becoming active in politics, he worked as an engineering consultant before joining the PKR in 1999.
