Former RMN chief Ilyas Din dies

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) chief Tan Sri Ilyas Din died of a heart ailment tonight.
He was 67.
Ilyas breathed his last at 10.10 pm at his residence in Kampung Datuk Keramat here after being warded for nine days at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
According to his close friend, Nor Khairul Anuar Mohamad Nor, the 13th RMN chief had just been discharged from the hospital earlier today.
"I brought him home myself. We arrived at his house after Maghrib prayer and I will be here to manage his funeral tomorrow," he told Bernama, when contacted.
Nor Khairul said the funeral prayer would be held at the Khalid Al Walid Mosque in Jalan Padang Tembak here at 7 am before the remains were laid to rest at the Raudhatul Sakinah Cemetery here.
Ilyas leaves behind wife, Puan Sri Meryam Harun and three children, namely Mohd Azrai, Nuratika and Nurameera.
He was appointed as the RMN chief on April 28, 2005, before his retirement in 2006.
Throughout his career with the RMN, which began in 1972, Ilyas was named the RMN Father of Quality for being the driving factor for the RMN to obtain the MS ISO 9001:2001 Certification in 2003. — Bernama
