Malaysia records downward trend in dengue cases in 2016, 2017

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia has recorded a downward trend in dengue cases and deaths in the past two years, said Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.
"In 2016 and 2017, dengue cases decreased by 16% and 17% respectively, while the mortality rate reduced by 29 and 25 of the total cases.
"For 2018, a total of 32,435 dengue cases with 53 deaths were reported from Jan 30 till June 30, compared to 49,726 cases with 110 deaths during the same period in 2017.
"This is a reduction of cases by 35% and deaths by 52% respectively," he said during an opening remark at the Asean Dengue Day here today.
He attributed the success in reducing dengue cases to preventive and control measures undertaken by the ministry which includes using a real time web-based monitoring systems called eNotifikasi, eDengue, dengue epidemic management system and IDengue for the community.
"These digital dengue surveillance system helps the relevant agencies to take prompt action and prevent the dengue transmission," he added. — Bernama
