Tribunal for Homebuyer Claims settles 44,308 cases: Zuraida

PUTRAJAYA: A total of 44,308 out of 44,581 cases filed with the Tribunal for Homebuyer Claims (TTPR) were settled for the period between Jan 1, 2003 and June 30, this year, said Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin.
She said as for the Strata Management Tribunal (SMT), 7,645 out of 9,787 cases had been resolved from July 2015 until June 30, this year.
Zuraida said there was also an increase awareness among homebuyers in making claims when 709 housing and 2,355 strata management cases were recorded from January until June this year.
"The increase in the statistics is a result of promotional activities carried out by the ministry," she said in her speech at the presentation of appointment letters to six TTPR and 10 TPS presidents here today.
Commenting on the appointment, Zuraida said the increase in the number of TTPR and TPS presidents was to expedite the claims process filed by homebuyers.
She said most of the cases referred to the TTPR involved claims for damages for the delay in the handover of vacant possession of a home, while the majority of TPS cases filed were claims for maintenance charges and inter-level leaks issues. — Bernama
