KUALA LUMPUR: Google Malaysia is optimistic that Malaysian YouTube users will continue to thrive due to the content posted by local creators.
Google Malaysia head of marketing Jon Day said this is based on a study conducted recently, which found that 70% of audiences in each stage of their life use YouTube on a daily basis.
"This is regardless of the platform and a person's age," he told reporters here today after presenting the study titled "Who watches YouTube M'sia and what do they watch?" at its headquarters here.
He cited YouTube creators such as CharisOwTV which has 79,474 subscribers for music content and SkyMagenta's arts and crafts show with 166,739 subscribers.
Other social influencers include BabyAkiyo which focused on lifestyle and has 117,296 subscribers while Zukie Mohammad has 205,450 subscribers.
He also noted that audiences have used YouTube as an important tool for self-education, a move forward from entertainment.
The study also identified four types of subscribers — young professionals, couples, parents with young children and parents with older children.
The study included 1,000 Malaysian internet users.
