Pirelli-Rotary golfers raise RM53,898 for charity

PETALING JAYA: Pirelli, the global leader in premium tyres, recently teamed up with motorcycle accessories specialist Givi Asia and five other corporations to raise RM53,898 to fund community and charitable work carried out by the Rotary Club of Ara Damansara here.
They did this by organising the inaugural Pirelli Rotary Charity Golf recently which saw 128 golfers teeing off on a hot Friday afternoon at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club.
The other sponsors are Inta Bina Group Bhd, LHL Projects Sdn Bhd, Tamago and Trade Hunters (M) Sdn Bhd while Jaya Grocer contributed goody bags and hampers.
Rotary Club president Phoebe Wong thanked the generous sponsors for their contributions both in cash and kind. She attributed the success of the project to the close collaboration and the hard work of the organising committee led by organising chairman and club secretary Rotarian Ling Tek Lee.
Ling said much of the funds raised came from the corporate sponsors and a charity auction at the dinner after the tournament as well as the entrance fees from the golfers.
The turnout from both the golfers and the sponsors were overwhelming which led to the total raised hitting RM53,898 from the initial target of RM30,000.
"Some examples of our projects include water & sanitation, literacy & education, food subsidy for poor students, youth motivation and leadership training, polio eradication," Wong said.
The Charity Golf Dinner was well attended by Rotary International District 3300 officials led by District Governor Dr Manohur Kurup, District Governor Elect Dr Baskaran Krishnan, District Governor Nominee Designate Teoh Kwan Swee and Assistant Governor Johnson Wey.

As one of the earliest activities after the golf tournament, a team from Pirelli and several Rotarians called on an orphanage in Sungai Buloh on June 10 to contribute essential provisions, Hari Raya clothes and hosted a buka puasa.
The chosen orphanage was Pusat Jagaan Amal Asyura which housed 32 children at Sungai Buloh. The visitors also helped to decorate the orphanage to spread the festive mood.
Separately, Givi Asia and Rotary Club presented three bicycles and sundry provisions to an Orang Asli settlement in Kampung Bertang, Pahang. Since 2016, 10 Rotary Clubs have jointly adopted and helped this community with basic education and literacy programme.
