Sampaoli remains Argentina coach, for now

Beleaguered Jorge Sampaoli is still Argentina coach and has been put in charge of the under-20 national team for an upcoming tournament.
The national federation AFA said late Monday that its president Claudio Tapia and deputy Daniel Angelici met with Sampaoli and talked about the World Cup in Russia where the two-time champions went out in round of 16 against France.
The AFA said that its executive committee would meet at the end of the month to assess the World Cup and the work of Sampaoli who has a contract until 2022.
Sampaoli has been under heavy fire but AFA would reportedly have to pay a major compensation fee if he is no longer wanted. The AFA put him charge of the under-20 team for a tournament in Spain later this month in succession of Sebastian Beccacece who moves on to Buenos Aires club CSD Defensa y Justicia.
Beccacece was Sampaioli's assistant at the national but resigned along with two other staff members after the World Cup exit.
