KUALA LUMPUR: A Vietnamese woman has claimed that she has been saddled with a RM230,000 debt after helping 12 compatriots to secure money from a loan shark.

Le Thi Kim Dung, who is married to a local, said she tried to help her Vietnamese friends financially, which has now left her at the mercy of debt collectors.
Her troubles allegedly started in December when she introduced the 12 to a loan shark, who is also a Vietnamese, as they desperately needed money.
Unfortunately for Le, the 12 were rounded up by the Immigration Department and deported.
The loan shark, unable to get what he was owed, confronted Le. He allegedly turned to debt collectors, who hounded Le's husband, Chiang Jun Chong.
"The debt collectors managed to get information on the husband's family and sent threatening messages," MCA public services and complaints department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong said at a press conference today.
"If you don't pay, we'll go after your family. They even got the home address, phone numbers and even the car registration numbers of the husband's family members."
