Pusma wants govt to ensure strict enforcement on illegal recruitment agencies

SEREMBAN: National Human Resource Organisation (Pusma) wants the government to ensure strict enforcement on illegal recruitment agencies, said its president Zarina Ismail.
She said Pusma also would like the government to abolish the direct hiring of domestic workers by employers as this practice contradicted with the Philippines and Indonesian embassies' regulations and it was risky for employers to hire domestic workers in the source countries.
"Moreover, it will lead to more human trafficking issues and abuse of workers. As at June 2018, Malaysia is under ATIP Tier 2 Watch List, which dropped from Tier 2 in 2017 while both our source countries, the Philippines is in T1 and Indonesia in T2.
"Pusma has received many complaints that employers repatriate domestic workers without informing their licensed recruitment agencies after failing to pay monthly salary owing to the workers of between six months to more than one year," she said in a statement here today.
As such, she said Pusma would like the government to collect salary guarantee bond from the employers as one of the conditions in the employment contract and to be refunded to the employer once the worker resigned or were repatriated. — Bernama
