GEORGE TOWN: DAP's Seri Delima assemblyman Syerleena Abdul Rashid has lodged a police report after receiving a death threat in a note posted to her service centre on Tuesday.
Syerleena said the note was written in Bahasa Malaysia with the words "MAUT MENANTI KAMU" (Death Awaits You).
"I was shocked to see this and scared as well, I feel this is serious," she said in a press conference at her service center in Island Glades here.
Syerleena said the death threat might be related to a viral posting on social media alleging that she was out to attack Islamic institutions, especially the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim).
She said the viral posting has been recycled, adding that she had previously lodged reports on the fake postings.
"I have received many negative comments, but this is the first time I have received a death threat," she said in calling for a stop to such harassment.
She urged the police to investigate the matter thoroughly and let the rule of law to take its course.
When contacted, Northeast district police chief ACP Anuar Omar confirmed the report, and said police are in the midst of investigations to identify the culprit.
