2 more schools closed following HFMD outbreak

GEORGE TOWN: Two more schools have been ordered to close following the outbreak of the hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD), said state education director Mohd Jamil Mohamed.
He said the schools will be closed for about 10 days so that the premises can be cleaned.
"The schools that were closed are SKJC Sam Sun and SJKC Phor Tay," he said.
Yesterday, it was reported that SJKC Phor Tay had six of its classrooms closed since last Tuesday and SJKC Sam Sun was being monitored by the state Health Department after several of its student were infected with the disease.
He said the closure brings the total number of schools closed due to the outbreak to four, following the closure of SJK (C) Shih Chung's branch and Tenby International School which were closed on Wednesday.
Mohd Jamil added that SJKC Chong Cheng in Bayan Lepas had nine of its classrooms closed after eight students contracted the disease.
As of Wednesday, a total of 65 facilities were shut down due to HFMD since January this year and a total of 1,679 case has been recorded in the state.
A total of four patients were also admitted (two in Seberang Jaya Hospital) and (two in Penang Hospital) due to the virus.
