IPOH: A 71-year-old grandfather claimed trial at the sessions court to molesting and raping his two grandchildren last month.
The charge was read to the accused before sessions judge Datuk Julie Lack Abdullah.
In the first charge, he was alleged to have had sexual intercourse with his six-year-old granddaughter.
The offence was allegedly committed at a home in Desa Chemor between 7pm and 7am between June 3 and June 6, 2018.
The charge was framed under Section 376B of the Penal Code for committing incest.
If convicted, he is liable to face a maximum jail term of 30 years and whipping.
For the second charge, the senior citizen is alleged to have inserted a finger in the anus of the first victim's five-year-old sister.
The charge comes under the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for touching a part of a child's body.
If convicted, he is liable to face a maximum jail term of 20 years.
The alleged offence was committed during the same time frame mentioned above.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Naidatul Athirah Azman prosecuted while defence counsel Sukhdev Singh represented the accused.
Naidatul Athirah applied to the court not to grant bail as the alleged victims are the grandchildren of the accused.
In applying for bail, Sukhdev told the court that his client was suffering from Parkinson's disease, hypertension, piles and hearing defects.
"The children are not staying with my client and he also needs medical treatment for his illness daily," he added.
The man's wife had passed away on June 3.
The court was also told that the accused only receives a monthly aid of RM350 from the welfare authorities.
Judge Julie Lack set bail at RM10,000 for both charges with one surety and prohibited the accused from contacting the victims.
The case will be mentioned on Aug 13.
