State government urged to reinstate Sabah Paddy Board

KOTA KINABALU: A social activist has called on the state government to bring back Sabah Paddy Board (LPS) to address the problems faced by paddy farmers in Sabah.
Datuk Patrick Sindu claimed that the paddy management in Sabah became disorganised since the LPS was disbanded.
"Since the LPS was disbanded, farmers often faced problems especially involving drainage and infrastructure which affect paddy fields. There are paddy fields that are being abandoned because there is no systematic management system.
"This will continue to happen as long as there is no special body to find a way to fix the problem," he told Bernama here.
He also believed that the re-establishment of the LPS would able to increase the local paddy yield as well as to safeguard the paddy farmers. — Bernama
