Two family members die in Miri road accident

MIRI: Two family members were killed in an accident involving a four-wheel drive vehicle and a sedan at the Jalan Bahagia-Jalan Kuala Baram Bypass intersection, Wednesday night.
According to State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu, the victims were the Proton Persona driver Thomas Balang Apoi, 45, and his eight-year-old son, Elfhy Leonald Panai.
"Elfhy died on the spot while his father succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at the Miri Hospital," he said in a statement today.
Initial investigation found that the Toyota Hilux was coming from Permyjaya and heading towards Pujut when the Proton Persona which was from the opposite direction suddenly turned into Jalan Bahagia.
"The driver of the Toyota Hilux could not stop in time to avoid the crash," he said adding that the 25-year-old man escaped with light injuries. — Bernama
