KUALA LUMPUR: Messrs Scivetti & Associates will represent Umno to claim the RM116.7 million in political funds seized by the Malaysian police recently, which the party claims belongs to it.
Umno’s Legal Unit chief Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said the legal team was appointed on Tuesday and will be led by Datuk Hariharan Tara Singh.
“They are considering, among others, various procedures and legal avenues which can be taken by Umno against those concerned," she said in a statement yesterday.
On May 18, the police reportedly seized a sum of money alleged to be Umno's political funds for the purpose of funding political campaigns in the 14th General Election and for the management of the party.
The money was seized during a new leadership change process in Umno after the party election took place on June 30th. — Bernama
