KUALA LUMPUR: The Election Court has set Sep 3 to 20 for the Cameron Highlands election petition to be heard.
The date was fixed by High Court (Appellate and Special Powers) Judge Datuk Azizah Nawawi in chambers today, following a petition by DAP candidate M. Manogaran against Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk C. Sivarraajh who won the seat.
Lawyers M. Rajendrakumar and Damian Chan represented Manogaran while lawyer Nik Alia Hanafi appeared for Sivarraajh.
The court has also fixed July 19 for case management.
Rajendrakumar told reporters that they have yet to decide on how many witnesses to call, while Nik Alia said an application has been filed to strike out Manogaran's bid.
Manogaran filed the petition on June 5 to nullify the May 9 results where BN's MIC candidate Sivarraajh won the seat with 10,307 votes while Manogaran garnered 9,710 votes.
Manogaran, as the petitioner, said the Orang Asli community, who made up about 20% of voters in the constituency were bribed and threatened.
